Challenges of Electronics Photography
Electronics present unique challenges: reflective surfaces, screens that need to show content, small details that matter, and cables or ports that need to be visible.
Lighting Setup
Use two softboxes at 45-degree angles for even, diffused lighting. Add a small reflector card below to fill shadows under the product. Avoid direct flash — it creates harsh reflections on screens and glossy surfaces.
Handling Screens
For devices with screens, you have two options: photograph with the screen off (clean, simple) or add screen content in post-processing (more engaging). If showing screen content, set brightness to 50% to avoid overexposure.
Showing Ports and Details
Use macro mode or a close-up lens to capture ports, buttons, and texture details. These shots help customers understand build quality and connectivity options.
Post-Processing Workflow
- Shoot on any clean surface
- Upload to Pic1.ai for background removal
- Select white background for marketplace listings
- Use dark/gradient backgrounds for premium social media posts
- Add reflection shadow for a showroom look
Cable Management
If showing cables, arrange them neatly in gentle curves. Never show tangled cables. For wireless products, emphasize the cable-free design.
