Amazon A+ Content (formerly Enhanced Brand Content) lets you add rich images and text below your bullet points. Most sellers treat it as a branding exercise — pretty images, inspirational text, brand story.
That's a waste. A+ Content should be a conversion tool. Here's how I design A+ Content images that actually increase sales.
The Data
I A/B tested A+ Content on 40 listings over 6 months:
| A+ Content Type | Conversion Lift |
|---|---|
| No A+ Content (control) | 0% |
| Brand-focused (logo, story, lifestyle) | +3-5% |
| Conversion-focused (comparison, specs, FAQ) | +15-20% |
Brand-focused A+ Content barely moves the needle. Conversion-focused A+ Content is a game-changer.
The Conversion-Focused A+ Content Formula
Module 1: Comparison Chart
What: Your product vs. 2-3 alternatives (your other products or generic alternatives — never name competitors).
Why: Customers are comparing anyway. Give them the comparison on YOUR listing so they don't leave to compare elsewhere.
Image specs: 970×600px, clean product photos on white, feature checkmarks.
Module 2: Feature Deep-Dive
What: 3-4 close-up images with detailed feature explanations.
Why: Addresses specific purchase concerns that bullet points can't convey visually.
Image specs: 300×300px per feature image, macro/detail shots.
Module 3: Use Case Gallery
What: 4-6 images showing the product in different use scenarios.
Why: Helps different customer segments see themselves using the product.
Image specs: 220×220px per image, lifestyle shots.
Module 4: FAQ Visual
What: Common questions answered with supporting images.
Why: Reduces customer questions and addresses objections before they become deal-breakers.
Image specs: 970×300px banner with text overlay.
Module 5: Size/Compatibility Guide
What: Detailed dimensions, compatibility information, what's included.
Why: Reduces returns from size/compatibility mismatches.
Image specs: 970×600px, product with measurements and compatibility icons.
Image Creation Workflow
- Product photos: Clean cutouts from pic1.ai on transparent backgrounds
- Templates: I have Canva templates for each A+ module type
- Composition: Drop product photos into templates, add text and icons
- Export: JPEG at 95% quality (Amazon compresses further, so start high)
Each A+ Content set takes about 45 minutes to create using templates.
Common A+ Content Mistakes
Too much text. A+ Content is visual. If your images are mostly text, you're doing it wrong. Use images to show, text to label.
No mobile optimization. 70%+ of Amazon traffic is mobile. A+ Content images that look great on desktop may be unreadable on mobile. Test on your phone.
Repeating gallery information. A+ Content should add NEW information, not repeat what's already in your gallery images.
Ignoring the fold. The first A+ module is visible without scrolling on most devices. Make it your strongest conversion module (usually the comparison chart).

My A+ Content Template Library
After creating A+ Content for 200+ products, I've settled on 3 template combinations that work for different product types:
Template A: Feature-Heavy Products (Electronics, Tools)
- Comparison chart (your products vs. alternatives)
- Feature deep-dive (4 close-up images with descriptions)
- Technical specs table
- Compatibility guide
- What's in the box
This template works because feature-heavy products need detailed information to overcome purchase hesitation. Customers buying electronics want to know exactly what they're getting.
Template B: Lifestyle Products (Fashion, Home Decor)
- Lifestyle hero banner (product in aspirational setting)
- Material/quality close-ups
- Use case gallery (4-6 scenarios)
- Size/fit guide
- Brand story (brief, authentic)
Lifestyle products sell on emotion. The A+ Content should make customers feel something, not just inform them.
Template C: Consumables (Food, Beauty, Supplements)
- Ingredient/formula highlight
- Before/after or results showcase
- Usage instructions (visual steps)
- Certification badges (organic, cruelty-free, etc.)
- FAQ addressing common concerns
Consumables need to build trust around safety and efficacy. Certifications and transparent ingredient information are critical.
The Image Creation Process
For each A+ module, I follow this workflow:
- Start with clean product cutouts from pic1.ai — transparent PNGs give maximum flexibility
- Open the Canva template for the specific module type
- Drop in the product image and adjust positioning
- Add text, icons, and callouts following the brand style guide
- Export at 970px wide (Amazon's A+ Content width) at JPEG 95%
The entire process takes 30-45 minutes per product once you have templates set up. Without templates, expect 2-3 hours.
Measuring A+ Content Performance
Amazon doesn't provide direct A/B testing for A+ Content (unless you're in their Manage Your Experiments program). But you can measure impact by:
- Track conversion rate before and after adding A+ Content (give it 2 weeks minimum)
- Monitor "Questions Asked" — good A+ Content reduces customer questions
- Check return rate — informative A+ Content sets better expectations
- Compare against similar products without A+ Content
In my experience, conversion-focused A+ Content pays for itself within the first month through increased sales and reduced returns.
